Spotlight on: Joseph V. Sebelin, Jr., Esquire
“Everyone should strive to improve – to make themselves a better person. That’s especially true for a lawyer.” – Joseph V. Sebelin, Jr. Esquire
An avid weightlifter, a fanatical martial artist, and a devoted father, attorney Joseph V. Sebelin, Jr. knows that hard work and perseverance leads to results. For over twenty years, Joseph has practiced in courtrooms across North Eastern Pennsylvania in cases involving criminal defense, divorce, custody, civil litigation, and real estate. No matter the issue, Joseph, has always fought hard for his clients.
Representing clients in the courtroom wasn’t a skill Attorney Sebelin was born with, it took years of work. Raised in the small town of Nesquehoning Pennsylvania, Joseph was a 1991 graduate and valedictorian of Panther Valley High School. In 1995, Joseph graduated from Bucknell University as Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Political Science. Joseph’s academic career would culminate in 1998, when he earned his Juris Doctorate from Pennsylvania State University: Dickinson School of Law.
“From a young age, I knew that my career needed to be more than just a way to make ends meet, I wanted to provide the best legal representation I could for my community” said Joseph. For over twenty years, Attorney Sebelin would honor that pledge by working in courtrooms across Northeastern Pennsylvania in areas such as divorce, spousal support, custody, civil litigation, and criminal law. He has secured successful verdicts on issues such as ensuring a grandparent’s right to visit their grandchild, to enforcing countless victims of domestic abuse through Protection from Abuse Actions.
“People often think that in order to change the world you have to do something big, but that’s not entirely correct” said Joseph. “Little things add up. Little things change people’s lives.” In 2010, Attorney Sebelin successfully defended a veteran facing felony assault charges. In a jury trial lasting several days, Attorney Sebelin presented evidence and testimony showing that the accused was defending his younger sister. Attorney Sebelin utilized not only effective witness testimony, but also cross examination techniques carefully selected by Joseph to strengthen his client’s case. “A lot of clients come into my office facing major legal obstacles, the first thing I stress to them is that I’m there to fight for them”.
Today, Joseph continues his practice by representing residents of Carbon, Schuylkill, Lehigh, Luzerne, Lackawanna, Monroe, and Northampton Counties. He is a proud member of the Lehighton Community and a former pee-wee soccer coach and Cub Scout leader. If you live near Palmerton, Pennsylvania, you may even see Attorney Sebelin dawning his karate gee as he trains in both Tang Soo Do and Jiu Jitsu.
